Train Day is an adventurous tradition where my best friend and I explore Long Island with a twist. Starting early, we board the Long Island Railroad from the furthest station possible for the minimum fare*, aiming to reach a unique final destination by the end of the day. The challenge? To travel without having our tickets collected, strategically hopping on and off trains while discovering hidden gems in various towns—all within walking distance from the stations. Each Train Day is a one-time journey to a specific destination, filled with spontaneous explorations, local eateries, and cultural spots, making every trip a unique experience. It’s a day of discovery, strategy, and fun, embracing the spirit of adventure and the charm of Long Island.
